How Lisbon Airport pickup works
After collecting your luggage, you go to the agreed meeting point in the arrivals hall, let the team know you have arrived and take the free shuttle to the office. There you complete the paperwork, inspect the car and set off. Returns work the same way in reverse: you drop the car at the office and the shuttle takes you back to the terminal during opening hours.

Where a car makes sense from Lisbon
Central Lisbon is easiest to explore on foot, by tram or by metro. A rental car becomes useful once you want to leave the city and combine several places in one day.
Sintra
Palaces, gardens and forested hills, about 30 to 40 minutes from the city. Access to the historic centre and the palace roads can be restricted for private cars, so check current traffic rules and consider parking further out and continuing by shuttle or on foot.
Cascais and the Estoril coast
An easy coastal drive with beaches, the Boca do Inferno cliffs and, further on, the wild Guincho beach and Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe.
Arrábida and Setúbal
Cross the Tagus to reach the Arrábida Natural Park, its turquoise coves and the fishing town of Setúbal. In summer, access to some beaches may be limited, so check before you go.
Óbidos, Nazaré and the Silver Coast
Head north for a walled medieval town, the famous big waves of Nazaré and quieter beaches. This is a full-day trip, so choose two or three stops rather than trying to see everything.
Practical tips for driving around Lisbon
- Parking. Parking in central Lisbon is limited and mostly paid. If you are staying in the city for a few days, consider collecting the car only on the days you plan to leave town.
- Tolls. Many motorways around Lisbon have tolls, and some only accept electronic payment. Ask at pickup whether your car has a toll device and how charges are billed.
- Valuables. Keep bags out of sight when parking at viewpoints and beaches, and take valuables with you.
